SSE package is bad

I purchased this kit from Sunset electronics. Therefore, this review is of the whole kit, not the underlying camera.The camera seems to be ok. However, the body was cannibalized from a Canon body + lens kit. They shipped a body + lens kit box with the lens removed. This seems ok, but made me wonder about the warranty. I called Canon service to find out, but they said that the warranty may or may not be supported. The warranty would have to be validated at the time of claim.At the time I purchased this kit, it had the words "Canon batteries" in the description (not replacement for canon). They shipped me generics. After I called about it they changed the wording on the product description. No lens hood arrived. The camera bag that arrived is a one shoulder sling bag, not a backpack. The bag is also too small for the telephoto lens to fit in it (on or off the camera). The tripod that is included does not even work with the camera. The filters and one of the lenses came dirty and smudged. Also, the fisheye lens was sized for the telephoto lens. Who would do this? Why not use it on the 50mm? Furthermore, the package was not well packed. Everything loose in one big box. Not a very intelligent way to package expensive electronics and optics.I have called multiple times and given the seller many chances to resolve the issue. The seller refuses to send the rest of the kit (correct batteries, hood, etc.) until I leave positive feedback. I feel it is wrong to lie on feedback. I wonder how many other people had their purchases held hostage for good reviews? I can't tell other people it is ok to buy this poor product and service. Save your money; don't take the risk. Buy your camera and lenses from a reputable dealer.

Off brand accessories break on the job

I bought a similar package from sunset electronics for the t3i's hd video capabilities. The first day I took this camera out with me to a student film shoot the bag broke. Soon afterwards the charger broke. The tripod was subpar from the start. And just now I was shooting a live music video for a dj when the sd card broke for no reason. All of my footage is gone. All of the Zeikos and Digital Film accessories this package gives are absolutely horrible. Thankfully the camera itself and the lenses work fine. If you're willing to buy only the Canon products from this package for the price, then buy it. If you want all the extra accessories, fine another business.

A quality camera and lenses

I have a little experience with SLR photography and did have some experience in the past with a medium format camera. My purposes for this camera were for family portraits, landscapes and wildlife photography. My intention was to use as a primary lens; the 55-250mm for birds down at the local park and portraits. To date I have owned the camera setup for one week.This is a quality camera with a good range of options when considering the two lenses which come with this package. I have found use for the two of the three filters (polarizer and UV) and have not used the third. The filters I have used seem to work just fine. The tripod is lightweight and useful indoors our outdoors where there is little wind. It's fairly flimsy in build overall and I would rather have something sturdier. The telephoto and macro lens add ons were useless for me. They produce extremely soft imagery which turned me off. The camera bag fits one lens and the camera body with some of the accessories but is not adequate for both lenses and the camera body. The camera bag is adequate for protecting the camera to and from shooting locations and inside a backpack. The USB card reader worked just fine for me. Although my laptop has an SD Card reader I have a use where I can plug it into my wife's Mac which doesn't have an SD Card reader. The digital editing software which comes with the camera is fairly decent on my Windows 7 operating system, with one exception. I couldn't figure out how to crop images and so I decided to use UFRaw with GIMP which are free options.The additional batteries work just great; as if they are factory batteries.The lenses which come in this package are optically decent and can produce good images if the user understands their respective limitations and are willing to exercise some patience in that regard. For example, I had a hard time learning that the 55-250mm lens is not the ideal lens for fast moving birds. Although with some research regarding technique and application of that technique I was able to succeed under specific conditions. Such is photography at times. The colors from both lenses and cameras look great. Getting two lenses with IS (Image Stabilizer) seems to be a good decision thus far as most of my shots are hend held. The 18-55m lens does quite well at flowers and landscapes of mountains. This lens turned out to be wider than I had anticipated and that is a positive mark. Both lenses are fairly loud with autofocus and if this a concern for you then you might consider a quiet lens or using manual focus under some conditions. Especially for wildlife photographers.Overall I am pleased with the products and shipping speed from the seller.
